A multifunctional square with an amphitheater and a viewing platform
Gmina Postomino
An amphitheater-style square with a breathtaking view of the Baltic Sea
The design solutions reconcile the apparent contradiction between moderation and distinctiveness. The structure, seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, simultaneously possesses bold and original features that give it a unique and individual identity.
The upper viewing terrace is designed at the level of the adjacent street, ensuring that it does not obstruct the scenic views of the sea from the main pedestrian and vehicular route. From the perspective of the beach access and the beach itself, the structure appears to hover above the terrain. Its form, without dominating the surroundings, embodies the concept of hidden architecture.
The circular shape, evident both in the contour of the escarpment and in the design of the viewing points, is optimal from the perspective of:
– Structural analysis, ensuring both cliff stabilization and the static integrity of the viewing walkway
– The response of the viewing platform’s structure to temperature changes (as confirmed by preliminary structural calculations),
– Maximizing scenic openings towards the sea (circular viewing points provide the widest panorama of the surrounding landscape),
– The philosophy of movement within the designed space—entry and exit from the viewing platform do not have to follow the same path, while the circular movement reflects the idea of infinity, evoking a sense of boundlessness as one gazes at the vast horizon of the sea.
