The primary goal of the architectural project is to create an attractive waterfront space that gives Ruciane-Nida a new identity. The planned port will be the largest marina in this part of the Masurian lakes. The captain’s office, restaurants, facilities for sailors, and a hotel follow the principles of hidden architecture—integrating seamlessly into the natural terrain without competing with the surroundings. Green roofs serve as a natural extension of the designed park and function as scenic viewpoints overlooking the port and lake. The concept places a strong emphasis on harmoniously integrating the building volumes into the landscape so that the structures do not create a barrier between the park and the port. The project was made possible by winning the SARP competition for the urban and architectural concept of developing the shores of Lake Guzianka Duża, along with the adjacent urban green areas and the former sawmill site, under the theme “Ruciane-Nida, Marina!”
“The project was awarded for its clear and attractive urban composition, executed with great sensitivity to the existing context. The jury highly valued the accuracy of decisions that took into account all local conditions. The clean arrangement of the structures allows for their independent functioning and proper phasing of the investment. The decisions referencing the post-industrial history of the site seem particularly well-judged. The project preserves the exceptionally valuable landscape qualities while creating an appealing functional program with significant development potential.”
